Center for Animation’s Grendel wins Student Academy Award
For the sixth time since 2004, the BYU Center for Animation has received the prestigious distinction as a winner of the Student Academy Awards (SAA), an annual competition recognizing the most promising student filmmakers around the world. Out of 1,615 entries from 360 domestic and international institutions, the SAA recognized BYU’s short film Grendel as one of only 16 winners across all categories for 2019.

Dr. Kent Gee Appointed as Chair of the Department of Physics & Astronomy

BYU’s Milton Lee Earns Two Acclaimed Chemistry Awards
Brigham Young University’s emeritus chemistry professor, Milton Lee, was awarded the American Chemical Society National Award in Analytical Chemistry on April 2, 2019. Recently retired, Lee has published nearly 600 articles and given over 500 presentations throughout his career, which cumulatively represent enormous advancements in the field.

He developed an unprecedented method for determining the volume of objects and invented a heat ray to torch ships attacking his hometown. Prehistoric “Buzzsaw Killer” Comes to BYU
America loves a good shark story. The country’s obsession with the frightening fish has been manifested by its love of Jaws, Shark Week, and four full-length Sharknado films. Little do Utahns know, the state has its own shark story–kind of. Hundreds of millions of years ago, Northern Utah was at the bottom of a prehistoric sea, which housed large, shark-like creatures with sets of teeth like buzzsaws.
