It’s scholarship, grant, and FAFSA application season! Even though the university scholarship deadline has passed, you still have several options for earning scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year. Here are a number of scholarship opportunities specifically for students in the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
College Scholarships
There are nine scholarships that are open to all CPMS students. Here is some information about three of these scholarships:
- Elrod Leany: This scholarship is open to students who work a minimum of ten hours per week in their department and who have at least a 3.2 GPA.
- Nephi A. Christensen: This scholarship is open to students with a 3.5 GPA or higher, and preference is given to students with financial need.
- Carl Joseph Christensen: This scholarship is for juniors and seniors with financial need. While scholastic standing will be considered, there is no GPA cutoff for this scholarship.

Geological Sciences

The Department of Geological Sciences offers fourteen scholarships. But don’t worry, you won’t be asked to fill out fourteen separate applications. To apply for these scholarships, follow the link above, fill out your personal information, answer simple yes or no questions, and write one paragraph about why you should be considered. The Mathematics Department offers scholarships for first-year students, continuing students, and for winners of the Putnam Contest. The Putnam Contest scholarship is open to both first-year students and to continuing students. Students can earn half tuition or full tuition through any of the scholarships. The Statistics Department offers scholarships in the following four areas: actuarial scholarships, memorial scholarships, BYU-I transfer student scholarships, and department scholarships. Students who wish to apply for any of the eight scholarships in these four categories should send their completed applications to mgmt@stat.byu.edu. Computer Science

Computer Science Scholarship application
The Computer Science Department offers seventeen scholarships for undergraduate students who have declared a computer science major. You only need to fill out one application and indicate which scholarships you qualify for. There are some scholarships for specific groups of students, such as female students or students who intend to pursue a JD or MBA. There are also general scholarships for all computer science students. Students who apply will be asked to provide a scholarship essay and a description of financial need.
Physics and Astronomy

The Physics and Astronomy Department provides full or half tuition to students through eleven different scholarship funds. Many of the scholarships are open to all students. However, the department offers some scholarships specifically for rising seniors, for students who participate in community service, and for sophomores. Chemistry and Biochemistry

Mathematics Education
There is no official application for math education students. If you will be student teaching during the 2020-2021 academic year, your department will provide information for student teaching scholarships.
