Members of the Applied Math in Europe study abroad recently returned from an international experience involving eight countries and 11 company visits over the course of three weeks.

With about six to seven research projects in his queue each year, Dr. Pace Nielsen in the BYU Department of Mathematics has made waves in the mathematics community. One of his most recent projects was a massive collaboration (unusual in mathematics) with a number of world-class researchers, studying the spacing of prime numbers. They proved there are infinitely many pairs of primes within 246 integers of each other.

Dr. Tracianne Neilsen has spent many years trying to find a balance between family, mentoring students in acoustics, and teaching physics. After 12 years at BYU, Neilsen received the BYU Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award at the Annual University Conference in recognition for her outstanding contribution to the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and the University. The award is given to a part-time faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in teaching or in other professional responsibilities over a period of at least five years.

Tyler J. Jarvis, a professor in the BYU Department of Mathematics, received the Karl G. Maeser Excellence in Teaching Award at this year’s Annual University Conference.

Dr. Frank Jones has found that a degree in computer science can apply to any field of study, and he’s helping others discover that, too.

When Dr. Jani Radebaugh isn’t in a geology classroom or her office, you can guess she’s across the world researching and collecting geological samples.
