Photo Contest Information

Please carefully read the following instructions, as entries must follow these guidelines to be considered.

Theme

Celebrating Discovery
God is the source of all truth, and we have the opportunity to seek and share His light in many ways throughout our BYU experience. This includes learning in our chosen disciplines of computing, math, and science.

Share a photo that represents a moment when you grew, made a discovery, felt inspired, or gained insight. It could be from any part of your BYU experience related to your major (classroom, research, experiential learning, internship, study abroad, study group, student associations, student job, etc.).

Eligibility

The contest is open to all currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate majors in the College of Computational, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences.

Submission Guidelines

  • You must take the photo yourself 
  • All entries must have been created during your time as a student enrolled in the college
  • There is a maximum of three entries per person 
  • AI generated content is prohibited 
  • Files must be JPG or TIFF 

  • Photos must have a resolution of at least 4000 x 2800 pixels 

    • 12MP camera sensor (most newer iPhones will work) 
    • Cameras are available for check out from the HBLL if desired 
  • Filename must be in the following format: First Initial Last Initial-1.JPG/TIFF 
    • For example, if my name is Carl Eyring, I would submit my photos as follows: CE-1.jpg, CE-2.tiff, etc. 
  • Captions are required to accompany each photo 
    • Captions need to be between 50-100 words 
    • Captions should express how the photo is related to the prompt. Do not narrate or describe the photo. Captions will be included in the judging process. An excellent caption elevates the consideration of the photo. 
  • Submitting an entry into the contest grants BYU College of Computational, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences permission to use the photo for print, online, social media, marketing, and/or other promotions 

Deadline

Submissions close October 17, 2026

Judging

Judging begins once the contest has closed. The judging process takes approximately one month, depending on the number of submissions. We will notify winners via email. Please note, the judges reserve the right to withhold any award if no entry meets the predetermined standards.

Right to Refuse Any Entry

The College of Computational, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences reserves the right to refuse any entry

3rd: $200

Top submissions will also be framed and displayed in the ESC.
