Dr. Alan Ashton, co-founder and former president and CEO of WordPerfect, will present at the annual Summerhays Lecture on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at 7 p.m. in room 2254 of the BYU Conference Center. Ashton’s lecture is titled “Light from on High Illuminates Science and Religion.”

Ashton is a former computer science professor at Brigham Young University and received his bachelor’s in mathematics and PhD in computer science from the University of Utah. He is the grandson of former LDS Church President David O. McKay and has served in numerous church leadership positions including stake president, mission president, and president of the Provo Utah Temple.

While some individuals have a tendency to highlight the differences between science and religion, the Summerhays Lecture has been a BYU tradition since 2003 that embraces and emphasizes the shared truths between the two.

The event is free and open to the general public. If seating becomes full, an overflow section with live video feed of the lecture is located in room 2295 of the BYU Conference Center.
