Cancer research students are finding more discoveries due to the Rex Lee Run

BYU graduate Michelle Townsend will never forget watching her healthy, tennis-playing grandmother slowly weaken and pass away from cancer. The subsequent diagnosis of her mother and her grandfather motivated Townsend to enter the cancer research field and discover a cure that will ease, and someday lift, the fight that all patients must go through.

Like Townsend, BYU master’s student Jenny Pattison was driven to cancer research after watching her dad pass away from cancer when she was just 15.

“It was a life-changing experience for me,” said Pattison. “I am dedicated to contributing what I can to the field of cancer research so that someday, someone will keep be able to keep their dad, brother, mom, daughter, or friend on this Earth a little longer.”
