Biography
Currently Assistant Professor in the math department working with many students on mathematical modelling, machine learning, and data science. Prior to that, I was a postdoc at UNC Chapel Hill doing Network Science. I was trained in applied math at UCLA (PhD) and in pure math at BYU (MS and BS). I have also spent three summers at Los Alamos National Laboratory, mostly doing applied fluid dynamics theory in their nuclear counter-terrorism group.
Research Interests
I maintain a broad program in mathematical modelling for the social sciences including, machine learning and data science tools. I work across many disciplines depending on my current collaborations. Current interests include global supply chain recovery, AI robustness, genealogical networks, and the psychology of behavior change.
Teaching Interests
I have enjoyed teaching students of all levels, from pre-algebra through graduate studies, with particular interest in teaching mathematical modeling, probability, and machine learning. I also maintain (probably) the largest mentored research lab in the department, helping students engage their mathematical tools in real data applications.
