Biography

Dr. William F. Christensen is Professor of Statistics at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, USA. He received his Ph.D. from Iowa State University. Prior to his current position, Dr. Christensen held tenure track faculty position at Southern Methodist University. In the past 15 years, he has also held visiting positions at Columbia University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Dr. Christensen's research has focused on (i) the modeling and analysis of multivariate spatiotemporally correlated data and (ii) the development of latent variable methods for multivariate data. His work has involved the development of novel statistical methods for the analysis of data across the sciences, with applications in air quality analysis, climate change assessment, fMRI analysis, public health, education, and the social sciences. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles in statistical science journals and in applied science journals. His research has been funded by a variety of sources including NASA, NSF, EPA, and the Health Effects Institute. He is a co-author of the book Methods of Multivariate Analysis (with Alvin Rencher) and he teaches courses in multivariate analysis, the design and analysis of experiments, and nonparametric data analysis. He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association (2016), a recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Medal of the ASA Section on Statistics and the Environment (2009).

pollution source apportionment, multivariate analysis, spatial and environmental statistics, resampling methods, climate and paleoclimate, and applications of statistics in politics and law
