Biography

Malcolm Randal Skinner is an Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences. He obtained his graduate degree in geology from Brigham Young University in 1996. Randy spent 10 years in industry following his departure from BYU, working as a Professional Hydro-geologist in Florida, Texas, California, Utah, and parts of the Caribbean. Randy is one of a few fulltime teaching faculty at the University, interacting with as many as 1,000 students a year, while teaching 30 credit hours. Since joining the faculty at BYU in 2003, however, Randy has also had the opportunity to be involved in fieldwork in Hawaii, the Columbia Ice Fields of the Canadian Rockies, the desert of western Utah, and Antarctica. Randy and his lovely wife Dedi, have been married for 25 years and have two children.

Teaching Interests

Professor Skinner teaches a large number of GE courses in the Department of Geological Sciences. He also teaches Geology 210 and 230 for second year students majoring in Geology, as well as Geology 330 for Engineers. Professor Skinner also teaches Physical Science 100.
